HOST: Could one AI model read two stories at once?
EXPERT: This paper asks something close to that. The researchers combine the number-based versions of two text passages and give the mixture to one model.

EXPERT: No. They mix the model’s internal input numbers, not ordinary words in a chat box.

EXPERT: When the model guessed the next piece of text, clues from both passages often remained. The correct piece for one passage made the top ten guesses around 30 to 40 percent of the time.

EXPERT: Not yet. The two answers are only partly recoverable. Extra training can help, but it can also make a normal single passage work worse.
